With the basics out of the way, let’s get into the serious reasons of why you might want the TR4000i in your own home gym.

Advantages of the TR4000i

Some of the best features of the TR4000i include the following three advantages.

Very Stable and Quiet Design

Despite having an impressive 3.25HP motor, the TR4000i is surprisingly quiet. Not only is the sound of the motor kept at minimum, but the sound of your footfalls is also quieted thanks to the dual layer belt and 8 compression shocks located on the running track.

These compression shocks help protect your joints but also allow you to run more quietly without any effort on your part. The 20″ x 60″ running track offers plenty of room and is very smooth on the rollers.

The frame of the TR4000i is welded steel and has a lifetime guarantee. It is made to withstand long, strenuous runs without fail. Customers also find that the EZfold technology allows you to easily put up and take down the running board consistently, whereas others may become difficult to fold over time.

Priced Competitively Based on Quality

The TR4000i is priced very well for a residential model of this type, retailing for $1,299.00 from Lifespan. This includes free delivery and a 30 day money-back guarantee. If you’ve already purchased gym equipment in the past you’ll already be familiar with general pricing for new treadmills of this type.

If you haven’t and you believe the price to be a bit expensive compared to other models you’ve looked at, consider how much you’ll save in the long run. It might take a while for the machine to pay for itself when compared to the average gym membership, but remember you’ll continue to save money over the many years of service you’ll get.

Also, if you’re comparing this model to cheap $500 treadmill consider how much it will actually save you. You might save money at time of purchase but the TR4000i will last longer and give you a better workout compared to the cheap model you’ll need to replace in a couple years.

Preset Programs and Overall Versatility Keeps You Busy

One thing you won’t have to worry about with the TR4000i is getting bored. This model comes with a total of 17 pre-set workouts, including options for weight management, healthy living, and sports training goals.

There are an additional 2 programs dedicated to heart rate along with 2 final programs being custom set by the user. If you like doing your own thing sometimes, you’ll have plenty of choices for how difficult you’d like your workout to be.

The TR4000i has a total of 15 different incline levels and can handle running speeds up to 12mph. You can easily use this model for walking, jogging, runs, and even sprints depending on how athletic you are.

Disadvantages of the TR4000i

Though the TR4000i is obviously a solid machine with many benefits, there are two possible downsides to consider before investing.

Takes Up Quite a Bit of Room When Unfolded

One of the nicest things about the TR4000i is its 60″ long track, which is a great thing for those with a long stride. Unfortunately, it also means that this treadmill takes up more space than most residential models. When unfolded it has roughly a 75″ x 32″ footprint, which is really larger since you’ll need space on the sides and back of the machine for safety.

How much of an inconvenience this will really depend on how much room you have dedicated for your treadmill. If you plan to have it in your rec room or garage when you have plenty of space, it might not be an issue. But if you will need to have this treadmill in your home in the living room or another shared space you might want to do some measuring before buying.

Requires Assembly Upon Delivery

Chances are if you purchase the TR4000i you’ll have bought it online directly from Lifespan or from another retailer. If purchased from Lifespan you will receive free delivery but if you want assistance moving the box into your workout room/home gym or need help with assembly, it will cost extra. Room of Choice delivery is an extra $99, while complete delivery and assembly will be $199.

Lifespan did make an assembly for the TR4000i fairly easy. Simply follow the instructions and most people should be able to complete it by themselves. Having a helper can be useful.

Needing to assemble the machine yourself isn’t too big of a deal but is a disadvantage for those that that aren’t able to do so or are on a strict budget when it comes to the nearly $200 extra fee for labor.

Alternatives to the TR4000i

NordicTrack C990

A good alternative is the NordicTrack C990 treadmill. The C990 has a few of the same features as the TR4000i, including the 20″ x 60″ stride area and the ability to fold up this treadmill when not in use. Though it’s less expensive, at just under $1k, it has a larger 7″ display screen, 32 different types of preset workout programs and is compatible with iFit technology.

You can even browse the internet on the display or connect to Google Maps and do real life runs right in the comfort of your home. The C990 does have a lower maximum user weight of 300lbs and only a 12% incline versus the TR4000i’s 15% incline, but this won’t affect usability for the average person.

If you need a beefier treadmill than what the TR4000i offers then you should consider the Sole Fitness F85. This treadmill is pretty close to commercial quality and durability as you can get for at-home use. It is more expensive, retailing for just under $2k, but worth the extra money if the TR4000i just isn’t enough.

The F85 is one of the best folding treadmills on the market and comes with a 22″ x 60″ track and a max. user weight of 400lbs. It is Bluetooth compatible and will sync with either the Sole app or some other compatible fitness apps.

This model has a huge 10″ screen, as well as a sound system, cooling fans, and comes with a heart rate chest band. There are also heart rate pulse grips right in the handlebars for a quick reading.

Overall the TR4000i is an excellent folding treadmill, appropriate for most at-home gyms. It is priced very well for the quality and has excellent warranty policies to protect your investment. Lifespan is a great brand and this model is an excellent example of quality craftsmanship.
